Usage of the word "much".
Main Post:
I'm British and my girlfriend is American, and this has been annoying me for quite some time now.
She has a tendency to use the word "much" in ways that don't make sense to me. I seriously don't know why it annoys me so much (pun not intended), as I don't tend to have an issue with other peoples grammar/syntax.
She always says stuff like "love you much", "much happy" and "much good", and every time I have to double take and bite my tongue.
I don't want to call her out on this, as nothing can really be gained, and I'll just sound like an arsehole. But I would really like to know whether she is wrong, or whether it's an American thing, just for my own peace of mind.
Thanks.
Edit: I'm shit at grammar too.
Top Comment: just for my own piece of mind. Glass houses, mate.
What does saying ‘Much’ at the end of a sentence mean, and what languages use it?
Main Post:
When people put ‘much’ at the end of a sentence, for example; ‘cabbage, much?’
Top Comment: English would be the only language using it, as “much” is an English word. I don’t know about any other languages using their own equivalent of “much” in the same slangy way. It evolved something like this: (For example) “You don’t get out much, do you?” -> “Get out much?” —> “Recluse much?” ...all meaning about the same
